Suresh Gyan Vihar University Jaipur holds two day conference on Climate Change

Fourth National Conference on Climate Change was initiated by Suresh Gyan Vihar University, Jaipur at the institution only. The conference is a two day long event, which will go for October 16th and 17th. ‘Convention on Climate change and Water 2015’ is the fourth Annual National Conference in a row, which is being organized by the university.

The ceremony was started by igniting the lamp in front of Goddess Saraswati’s Idol. The lamp igniting was done by former IPS turned social activist, Kiran Bedi and Narmada Bachao Andolan activist, Medha Patekar along with Aruna Roy, who won Lal Bahadur Shastri Award and Magsaysay Award for her prominent role in social activities including her Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan, which was founded by her. The chairman, Chief Mentor and Vice Chancellor of Suresh Gyan Vihar University, Sunil Sharma, Dr. Sudhanshu and Dr. K. Khare respectively, also graced the stage during the lamp igniting ceremony.

Bedi said in her inaugural address to the people that contaminated environment is affecting people’s quality of life adversely. To protect it, we will have to identify the issues. For this we will go to the root causes, as issues related to air, water, smoke, garbage, etc. may vary according to the different places. For proper results, certain plans and policies need to be implemented in which youth participation is very important.

Chairman of Suresh Gyan Vihar University, Sunil Sharma questioned, if people, who are enjoying the benefits of the environment, are also sharing the burden of the same in equal amount. Another enthusiastic question was, if people who are polluting the environment also get affected with it. He also added that people need to create such an environment and develop a global scenario, where responsibilities would be assigned to proceed in the direction of availing better environmental conditions.

Aruna Roy and Medha Patekar also pointed out relevant issues which need to be addressed in time so that human race can survive with the help of humanity. After that, Dr. Sudhanshu highlighting the initiatives taken by the Suresh Gyan Vihar University, with regards to the environment. He said that the University has adopted two villages, each in Himalayan glacier and Sambhar Lake. The university will also do a thorough research on ongoing mining activities in Aravalli Hills.

Swati Mishra and Pankaj Khatri, who are executive officers of C3W 2015, mentioned that more than 2,500 participants across the country would be taking part in this two-day Convention. The participants will present their research papers and participate in model making and poster presentations competition.
