Phnom Penh City Center launched its PPCC Central Park Street Furniture Design Competition at a ceremony officiated by its Executive Director, Mrs. Michelle Lau at the Phnom Penh Hotel yesterday.

Opened to students and young working adults, this competition is designed to encourage and promote arts & culture in the country especially amongst the youths of today. More than eighty participants from nine universities and colleges including the Cambodian Mekong University, Institute of Technology of Cambodia, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Norton University, Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia, Raffles International College, Royal University of Fine Arts, SETEC Institute and Zaman University, have since registered to compete in designing street furniture for the PPCC Central Park, a project which is being developed by the Phnom Penh City Center.

“When we first initiated the idea, we were not sure what to expect of the response. To see so many bright young students coming forward with such enthusiasm, really warms my heart,” said Mrs. Lau.

Phnom Penh City Center is a young project but we plan to change the urban landscape of Phnom Penh through proper urban planning. We hope that by fusing sustainability and functionality, synergized with good urban planning, we are able to build a smart eco city that would be difficult to replicate elsewhere.

We also hope that by sharing our vision, we are able to attract people with the same vision to come to join and become a part of us to achieve our goal. Cambodia has seen much growth in recent years and as we begin to rebuild ourselves, we have to be prepared to be competitive to our neighbours,” Mrs. Lau added.

Mr. Frank Kruger, creative director of LOGON in China, sent a video recording to congratulate the participants. “This competition will give you a great chance to work with our International team of urban planners, architects, engineers and designers not only on projects in Cambodia, but also projects worldwide in large and small scales,” recorded Mr. Kruger.

The Grand Prize winner of the competition will be awarded a two-month internship at LOGON in China including all travelling and living expenses.

LOGON is an International Design House that specializes in urban planning, architecture and landscape disciplines. 2nd and 3rd place winners will each receive cash prizes while every of the participants will each receive a Certificate of Participation.

Industry experts from the Cambodian Society of Architects, will judge the entries based not only on the design, but also on environmental and eco friendliness.
