First dry run of COVID vaccination drive conducted at Sahara Hospital, Lucknow

The initial phase of dry run of COVID-19 vaccination was recently conducted at Sahara Hospital in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The drive was also conducted at 5 other centers like KGMU, SGPGI, RML Institute, and Community Health Centres in Mal and Malihabad area of Lucknow.

The drill was closely monitored and the whole process was assessed to evaluate the preparedness level. As per the sources, the details would be shared with other districts where another phase of dry run is to be held. It is scheduled to be conducted on January 5 at 450 locations across Uttar Pradesh.

During the mock drill, the transportation vans with dummy vaccine vials were availed at the centers from a cold chain and vials were stored in the inoculation room.

An identification proof will be required at the vaccination centres and once it is injected, the person will have to rest for around 30 minutes at the centre. Around 4.5 crore syringes for the vaccination drive have been used and 1.5 crore more will be procured later.

“Today dry run for COVID vaccination was organised across the country, and the same was conducted at six different places in Lucknow. The whole preparation related to vaccination was assessed. On January 5, we will conduct similar dry runs at six places in each of the 75 districts. These six places will include three urban areas and three rural areas of the respective districts,” said Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad.

The emergency use of two COVID-19 vaccines has been formally approved by India recently and the country is also preparing for one of the biggest drives across the globe and planning to inject around 300 million people on priority in the current year.
