After the pathetic URI attack where 18 Indian soldiers were killed, Indian army conducted surgical strikes against Pakistan across the Line of Control in Jammu & Kashmir. The motive was to “turn off the tap of infiltration at its root” from Jammu & Kashmir. It was to target terrorists waiting at multiple launch pads with the intention to cross over into India for terrorist activities.
The military defined a surgical strike as a military attack intended to inflict damage on a specific target, with little or no collateral damage to the vicinity.
Key Highlights-
- Operation was conducted at around 12.30 am on September 28 and lasted for 4 hours. Paratroopers from Special Forces were airdropped at the LoC, from where they crossed over the Pakistan’s territory.
- Indian Paratroopers entered 3 kilometers across the LoC and conducted the surgical strikes in Bhimber, Hotspring, Kel & Lipa sectors.
- There were 38 terrorists and 2 Pakistani soldiers killed by Indian Army paratroopers, no Indian casualties. Those killed included terrorists, their guides and handlers.
- 7 terror launch pads were smashed during the surgical strike which ended at 4:30 AM.
- The entire operation was monitored and approved by PM Narendra Modi s India wanted to “turn off the tap of infiltration at its root” in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
- There was full participation of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Army chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval from the Army headquarters in New Delhi.
- No casualties to Indian troops, heavy casualties were sustained by Pakistan-based terrorists.
- After surgical strike, India’s Home Minister Rajnath Singh has asked Punjab govt to evacuate villages falling within 10 kilometers of the LoC in view of the escalating situation.
- Pakistan army has denied claims that India’s military conducted surgical strikes against terrorist units on its side of the border in PoK.
