After signing the deal with Andhra Pradesh government to set up a manufacturing unit in the state, Micromax is in advanced talks with Odisha Government regarding same to be done in that state.
One of the co-founders of Micromax, Rajesh Aggarwal visited the state to explore possibilities of setting up a unit there. The officials of the company visited Infocity and the upcoming electronic manufacturing cluster (EMC) coming up at the Infovalley in the city’s periphery. While the initial plan of Micromax is to make mobile handsets which they may later diversify to complete range of products like laptops, LED monitors and home appliances.
IT Minister of the state, Mr. Pranab Prakash Das mentioned that Micromax had a talk with state government on company’s plans to set up a mobile handset manufacturing facility in the state, but the plans are not firmed up yet.
Micromax has asked for 10 acre land from Odisha Government in order to set up a manufacturing unit over there. The company finds Bhubaneswar as a potential location for this purpose.
Micromax is the second largest smart phone company in India after Samsung. In first financial quarter of 2015, its share of total smart phone sales in the country saw a significant jump of 4.9%. Share of Micromax in overall mobile phone sales increased from 10 to 12.6% during that period.
