Tata Group pledges to donate ₹1500 to fight Covid-19

With Coronavirus spreading its wings across India, many entrepreneurs and celebrities are coming ahead to support the country in its fight against the deadly virus. Probably the most prominent name in the list is the Tata Group, led by Ratan Tata. The group and its trusts have committed to donate a total of ₹1500 crore towards India’s battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ratan Tata informed the decision in a tweet that reads, “The Tata Trusts continue their pledge to protect and empower all affected communities, and is committing ₹500 crore for:

  • Personal Protective Equipment for the medical personnel
  • Respiratory systems for treating coronavirus patients
  • Testing kits for per capita testing
  • Setting up modular treatment facilities
  • Training of health workers and general public

In addition to the Tata Trusts, Tata Sons, the parent company of Tata subsidiaries, has also committed an additional ₹1000 crore assistance.Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said the company fully supports the initiatives of the country’s fight against Coronavirus. According to Ratan Tata, the COVID-19 crisis is one of the toughest challenges the human race has faced in the last many years, and needs immediate action.

Tata family has been one of the most philanthropic businesses in India, having donated for various causes in the past. Apart from Ratan Tata, there are also many other industrialists who have taken active part in contributing towards making India Corona-free. India’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani, apart from pledging to donate ₹5 crore to Maharashtra Chief Minister relief fund, will set up a 100-bed medical house at Seven Hills Hospital in Mumbai, that will also house a fully-equipped isolation facility for COVID-19 patients.

Vedanta Resources Limited’s Anil Agarwal has pledged to donate ₹100 crore, while Anupama Venugopal Nadella, the wife of Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, handed over a cheque of ₹2 crore to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

The global pandemic of COVID-19 cases have crossed 7.2 lakh in the world, with India’s tally crossing the 1000 mark.
