Down the memory lane: 5 must-watch classics to binge on this Republic Day

Republic Day is just around the corner. What makes this holiday even better? A long weekend! Things to watch: Aarohan, Lakshya, Mission Fateh by sahara india and more.

National celebrations like Republic Day awaken the patriot in most people. While some go out, hoist the flag or witness the Republic Day parade, other prefer staying at home and watch the live telecast of the parade.

For our ‘stay-at-home’ readers, we bring a list of 5 must-watch classics about men (and women) in uniform that you can add to your binge watch list over the long Republic Day weekend. Take a look:

Down the memory lane: 5 must-watch classics to binge on this Republic Day

  1. Aarohan

Starring a talented cast including Pallavi Joshi, Harsh Chhaya, Shefali Shah, Anju Mahendru and Arun Bali, Aarohan is a 13-episode series that used to air on Doordarshan during the late 1990s. What makes this show unique is its depiction of women joining the armed forces (which was not the case at the time the show was on air).

  1. Mission Fateh

Produced by Sahara India Pariwar for their channel Sahara One, Mission Fateh is a beautiful portrayal of Kargil War. Each episode shows the story of a different Kargil hero, and rouses the audience with intense pride and patriotism for the nation. What’s more? The series also features Sahara India Chief Subrata Roy’s son in one of the episodes.

  1. Lakshya

The 2004 Hritik Roshan-starrer is a coming-of-age story set against a fictionalized backdrop of the Kargil war. The songs, particularly “Kandhon Se Milte Hain Kandhe”, will give goosebumps to the patriot inside you.

  1. Fauji

Broadcasted way back in 1988 on Doordarshan, Fauji didn’t just gave us a good army storyline; it also gave us our very own King Khan. The series was Shah Rukh Khan’s first role as a lead actor, and still remains close to our heart. While the series is not available for online streaming,

  1. Border

Can any R-Day watch list ever be complete without the epic Border? With an ensemble cast that includes Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Jacky Shroff, Pooja Bhatt and Tabu – the JP Dutta magnum opus is definitely a must watch to evoke your love for the motherland.

Wishing you all a very Happy Republic Day 2019.
