LOS ANGELES: The original Iron Man suit donned by Robert Downey Jr. in the blockbuster 2008 Marvel Studios film has reportedly gone missing from a movie prop storage facility in Pacoima, California. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is investigating the case as a suspected burglary, as told by officer Norma Eisenman.
The missing suit is valued at $320,000, and was reported to the authorities on Tuesday. According to Officer Eisenman, the suspected theft occurred on the 13000 block of Weidner Street. While the exact time of the burglary remains undetermined, it is being considered to be between February and April 25th of this year.
The owners of the storage facility informed the police on Tuesday when they checked on the space and couldn’t find the original Iron Man suit, a report by CBS New stated.
The missing Iron Man suit was first donned by Robert Downey Jr when he played the flamboyant billionaire Tony Stark in the 2008 Marvel blockbuster ‘Iron Man’. The movie also marked the launch of Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Downey Jr went on to star as Tony Stark in nine other Marvel movies, as the Iron Man suit continued undergoing various upgrades. He is currently seen playing the character in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, and will next be seen as Tony Stark (probably for the last time) in 2019’s untitled ‘Avengers 4’.
“Iron Man” was created by comics legend Stan Lee along with scripter Larry Lieber, designed by artists Don Heck and Jack Kirby. The character has been quite popular among the masses ever since it made its first comic book appearance in 1963’s ‘Tales of Suspense’. Robert Downey Jr’s portrayal on the silver screen has added to its popularity.
