Numbers of organizations are coming forward to cater the basic needs of flood affected victims in Chennai, including Heritage Fresh, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI) and numerous actors of the film and television industry.
Past few days have proved disastrous for Tamil Nadu, but majorly the capital cum metropolitan city, Chennai, where local people are suffering to live a normal life. Supermarket retail chain specialist, Heritage Fresh is providing vegetables and other food items to the flood-affected people of Chennai at concessional rates. These food items include salt, milk and Dosa-Idli batter.
The Corporate Social Responsibility arm of HMIL, Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) distributed around 1,000 mats, 1,000 bed sheets, 500 tarpaulin sheets, 2,500 packets of biscuits, 1,000 packets of bread and 500 water cans (20 Litres each) in Sriperumbudur district of Chennai. These items were given to 500 victims in the presence of local government officials and Panchayat presidents.
Officials of the Nadigar Sangam recently joined hands with the EFI to provide relief materials to those badly affected by the recent floods in the state. Sources close to the Nadigar Sangam say that relief materials were provided to the inhabitants of Karivettai village in Cuddalore district.
“As a primary step, essential food items such as rice, dal, salt and sugar were given along with utensils to the villagers to enable them to cook their food. Sarees, veshtis and bedsheets were also distributed to the villagers. Actor Arulnithi sponsored over 1,000 bedsheets,” says a source.
Several office bearers of the Nadigar Sangam including actors Kutty Padmini, Kovai Sarala, Lalithaa Kumari, Sonia, Manobala, Udhaya, Pasupathi, Hemachandran and Ayub Khan have been working for over three days now to help distribute relief materials. Nadigar Sangam office bearers are also looking to provide relief materials and assistance to those affected in Kotturpuram, Chennai.
