COVID-19 New Variant Omicron: 21 Cases Reported across India till date

Coronavirus has sprung up with a new lethal variant named Omicron originated from South Africa. In UK, Omicron cases have shot up to 50 percent in one day recently. About 375 cases have been reported across 30 countries till date. The Omicron variant of Covid-19 is believed to be extremely infectious which has potential of undergoing mutations time and again.

The list of countries where Omicron cases have been reported are:

  •     Botswana – 19 cases
  •     The Netherlands – 16 cases
  •     Hong Kong – 7 cases
  •     Israel – 2 cases
  •    Australia – 8 cases
  •    Italy – 4 cases
  •    Belgium – 2 cases
  •    United Kingdom – 32 cases
  •    Germany – 10 cases
  •      Czechia – 1 case
  •      Denmark – 6 cases
  •      Portugal – 13 cases
  •      Austria – 4 cases
  •      Switzerland – 3 cases
  •      Spain – 2 cases
  •      Canada – 7 cases
  •      Sweden – 4 cases
  •      Japan – 2 cases
  •      South Korea – 3 cases
  •      Saudi Arabia – 1 case
  •      Reunion (France) – 1 case
  •      Ghana – 33 cases
  •      Nigeria – 3 cases
  •      Brazil – 2 cases
  •      United Arab Emirates – 1 case
  •      Norway – 2 cases

  •      United States of America – 1 case

The Indian government has started following severe measures for international passengers to track the spread of the new strain. These strict measures have been implemented from Wednesday.

It is noteworthy that India was about to resume scheduled commercial international flights on December 15. However, on Wednesday cancelled the plan and said that a reopening date will be given in due course.

The government has suggested states to opt for testing, after a week of health Ministry mentioning a recent decline in testing may undermine India’s attempts to halt the spread of the pandemic.
