8 Tips to fight viral fever during Monsoon

A common consequence of seasonal shift, viral fever has been quite prevalent in Delhi this monsoon. Though the condition is mostly not severe and can be easily treated, it may act as a precursor of serious underlying diseases. To combat the disease, here are 8 simple tips from Doctors at Kukreja Hospital, Rajouri Garden to tackle viral fever this monsoon –

#1. Stay Hydrated

Consumption of cold liquids helps regulate the rise in body temperature. Drink as much water as you can. Other drinks like ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution), juice, energy drinks, ice tea, etc. If any of these alternatives are not available, you can try soups or organic tea.

#2. Cool Environment

This helps the body fight infection better, but it does not mean turning the air conditioner on even at its lowest temperature. Drastic cooling may lead to shivering, which can deteriorate your medical condition. Some of the options include:

  • Bath in lukewarm water
  • Loose clothing
  • A light blanket (if you get shivers due to top fan speed)

#3. Adequate Rest

When your body is fighting fever internally, external exertion can hamper the process of recovery. It is important to avoid strenuous physical activities like gym, heavy lifting, running, etc. Make sure you minimize the exposure to mobile and laptop and have 8-10 hours of sleep at night.

#4. Ginger-Honey

One of the most effective home remedies, this combination helps fight off infection, leading to fever. It is recommended to be consumed 3-4 times a day with lukewarm water for best results.

#5. Steam

One of the oldest treatments in the book, steam helps fight nose congestion. This directly results in drop in fever.

#6. Fenugreek

Contrary to the popular belief, fenugreek (methi) is extremely effective as a treatment for viral fever. This home remedy is prepared by leaving half-spoon of methi seeds in half/half-quarter cup water and rest overnight. In the morning, strain the seeds and drink the solution for an effective treatment.

#7. Gargles

Doctors at Kukreja Hospital, Rajouri Garden suggest that usually, sore throats are the root cause of fever. To get rid of a bad throat, gargles with a solution of salt and lukewarm water can provide instant relief.

#8. OTC Medicines

If nothing works, then your last resort is over-the-counter medication. Make it a point to consult a doctor for these medications. However, self-medication is seldom recommended for viral and it is best if you consult a medical professional.

It is important to understand that two tablets instead of one never help. Make sure to keep a gap of 6 hours between two doses and stick to the prescribed quantity.
