Aditya Ghosh steps down as IndiGo Airlines president, Rahul Bhatia takes up the interim CEO position

MUMBAI: InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, which powers India’s top carrier IndiGo, mentioned on Friday its president, Aditya Ghosh, would leave the position effective July 31, after serving the company for 10 years. Rahul Bhatia will be taking the role of interim CEO, the airline mentioned in a statement.

The airline board is considering Gregory Taylor, an aviation sector veteran, as the new president and CEO in the coming months.

Taylor had a stint with IndiGo in the past and was also amongst the senior management roles with United Airlines and US Airways. He will join IndiGo as a senior advisor, reporting to Rahul Bhatia, the airline’s co-founder.

Ghosh has stepped down as the director of InterGlobe on April 26, Indigo said.

The reason for Ghosh’s departure was not mentioned either by him or the airline. The statement mentioned he would begin his “next adventure” in near future.

Founded by travel entrepreneur Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal, former chief executive of US Airways, in 2006, IndiGo has become the country’s largest low-cost airline with a market share of 39.7 per cent.

A trained lawyer, Ghosh joined the company in 2008.
