The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the Centre to seize the properties of wanted terrorist and underworld don, Dawood Ibrahim.
Headed by Justice R K Agrawal, the SC bench dismissed a plea filed by the Dawood Ibrahim’s family against the attachment of his Mumbai properties.
Three South Mumbai properties belonging to the don were auctioned by the Ministry of Finance last November. The total amounted to 11.58 crore. The auction was done under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act. Hotel Raunaq Afroz, also known as Delhi Zaika; Shabnam Guest House and six rooms in Damarwala building were the three properties.
The mastermind of 1993 bomb blasts in Mumbai owns multiple properties across the Midlands and south-east in the UK and India, UAE, Morocco, Turkey, Cyprus and Australia. The 62-year-old is also accused of crimes such as match-fixing and extortion, the UK times reported.
The details from a dossier prepared by Indian authorities were matched with the records held by UK’s Company House and Land Registry, as well as Panama Papers, to check the alleged property portfolio of the mafia.
It is also claimed that, D-company, which is Dawood’s syndicate, smuggled drugs through Pakistan and across Indian borders for shipment to North America and Europe from Mumbai ports. The same is also shown in the new BBC series ‘McMafia’.
