“Demolish it or restore it”, Centre slammed by Supreme Court over the crumbling Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is considered a symbol of love and figure of controversy. Sadly, this piece of history might become history soon. The Supreme Court slammed the Centre on Wednesday about its lax attitude pertaining to the 17th-Century mausoleum.

As reported by PTI, the court said that the preservation of Taj Mahal is a ‘hopeless cause’. The Taj Mahal should be either demolished or restored, else the court will shut down the renowned mausoleum.

The Uttar Pradesh government was severely criticized for its lack of planning to protect and preserve the Taj Mahal. The court also directed the central government to report the proactive steps taken towards restoration and protection of the Taj Mahal. Justice Deepak Gupta and MB Lokur iterated that the government has not taken any helpful steps despite a parliamentary support committee report in the loop.

The judges said, “Eighty million go to watch Eiffel Tower, which looks like a TV Tower. Our Taj is more beautiful. If you had looked after it, your foreign exchange problem would have been solved.

To find the source and level of air pollution surrounding the monument, the Centre has appointed Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. A report on the same will be submitted to the court in around four months.

If your children have not seen the Taj Mahal, ensure that they do so because the future of this celebrated wonder of the world looks really bleak.
