Government’s new policy allows people to get a passport from anywhere in India

The Indian government has facilitated easy application, which is intended to ease the process of applying for a passport. This will allow a person to apply from anywhere in India.

For example, a person working in Mumbai, who is a resident of Patna, can now apply for a passport at the nearest Passport Seva Kendra, Regional Passport Office, or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra, irrespective of his permanent address falling under the jurisdiction of that particular office.

Under the new policy, the police verification will be conducted at the address that the applicant will mention in the application form. Once the passport will be made, it will be dispatched at the given address.

These new rules were launched on the occasion of Sixth Passport Seva Divas by Sushma Swaraj, the External Affairs Minister.

The Minister also launched a mobile app, mPassport Seva, for Android and iOS. The app is designed to make it easier for people to apply, pay and schedule an appointment. Using the file number and date of birth, the users can track status of their passport applications. The delivery status for dispatched passports can also be tracked.

Sushma Swaraj described the changes that are made to the process of acquirement of passport as revolutionary. According to the PTI report, she said the in the last 48 years, around 77 Passport Seva Kendras were made available. Besides, 231 more were added in the last 48 months.

The Minister also announced that at least one Post Office Passport Seva Kendra or Passport Seva Kendra will be made available in all the 543 constituencies of Lok Sabha.
