The people of Mumbai are struggling to cope up with the heavy bout of rains, lashing the city since the last two days. Reportedly, more than 7 people have died in the regions of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane. It is said to be the second highest rainfall in the city.
The weather forecast shows more showers in the upcoming two days. A lot of destruction has been caused due to these heavy rains. It has hit the transport system, leading to a lot of traffic jams. Roads in various parts of the city are completely flooded.
As per the India Meteorological Department, various parts of Mumbai and Palghar witnessed 250mm rainfall. The region of Dahanu recorded 230mm rainfall in the last 2 days. More than 230 mm of rainfall was recorded in Santacruz in a day. As a matter of fact, it is for the first time that Mumbai recorded more than 200 mm rainfall this year.
Due to the heavy rainfall, a building wall collapsed in the Wadala East. It further led to a deep caving in the road. A number of vehicles were also damaged due to this.
Reportedly, more than 130 train services on Central and Western Railway were delayed or cancelled. As per the authorities, various road diversions have been affected, making the areas prone to waterlogging.
The authorities have issued high alerts on heavy traffic congestion on the Malad and Andheri subways. The Milan and Khar underpasses have been closed due to water clogging and poor drainage.
