Rahul Dravid becomes the 5th Indian in the ICC Hall of Fame

Famous by his name ‘The Wall’, Rahul Dravid was officially inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame on Thursday. In a small ceremony before the fifth ODI between India and West Indies, the legend was given the framed cap by Sunil Gavaskar. BCCI tweeted a short video of the ceremony.

Currently, Rahul Dravid is in charge of India U-19 and India A teams as a coach.

The International Cricket Council in July this year, at a ceremony in Dublin, announced the names of Rahul Dravid, Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting and retired England woman wicketkeeper-batter Claire Taylor as the new inductees in the Hall of Fame.

Dravid became the fifth player from India to have achieved a place in the list of hall of famers from India. Former Indian captains Bishan Singh Bedi, Suniel Gavaskar and Kapil Dev were inducted in the ICC Hall of Fame in 2009 and Anil Kumble earned his spot in 2015.

“It is a matter if great honor to be named by the ICC in the Cricket Hall of Fame,” Dravid said in July in a press release after being inducted.

“To find your name in a list of all-time-greats across generations is something one only dreams of while setting out on a cricket career and the kind of recognition that would delight any player. I am thankful to my near and dear ones as well as players I have played with and against, coaches and officials who have backed me over the years and helped me develop as a cricketer,” he said.

Dravid’s scorecard includes 13,288 runs in 164 test matches with 36 centuries and 10,889 runs in 344 ODIs with 12 centuries. He was also named as the ICC Test Player of the Year and ICC Cricketer of the Year in 2004.

He also was one of the best slip fielders in the game and still holds a world record of 210 catches.
