Origins of Emerald gemstone
Emerald mining is almost exclusively done from host rocks, where the emerald has grown into small veins or on walls of cavities. Colombia is the international center of emerald mining. The Muzo Mine, northwest of Bogotá, produces fine-quality stones of a deep green color. The Chivor Mine, northeast of Bogotá, is another important deposit, and other locations promise additional successful mining results.
Brazil also has various emerald deposits in Bahia, Goias and Minas Gerais. The stones are lighter than the Colombian ones; mostly yellow-green and are often free of inclusions. Brazil also supplies rare emerald cat’s eyes and extremely rare emeralds with a six-ray star. Other countries with emerald deposits include Afghanistan, Australia (New South Wales and Western Australia), Ghana, India, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Tanzania, Zambia and the United States (North Carolina).

A feeble Mercury in the horoscope can prompt various wellbeing issues, such as skin ailments, weakness in sensory system, anxiety, etc. “Wearing an emerald ring can sway the Mercury to a stronger state,” says Sundeep Kochar.
How to wear Emerald gemstone
Since the ruler of Emerald gemstone is Mercury, a strong planet, it is advisable to wear the gemstone following the proper procedure on a Wednesday, within the first hour of sunrise. As told by astrologer Sundeep Kochar, the stone should be put in a gold or silver ring on the little finger of the working hand.
Also, before wearing, the gemstone should be dipped into ‘Gangajal’ or cow milk for at least 10 minutes. This eradicates all impurities and negative aura (if any) contained by the gemstone, making it safe to wear. While wearing an emerald, one should recite the mantra, “Om Budhaye Namah”, thus invoking the planet Mercury (Budh).
