Navniet Sekera is one of the most acclaimed officers in the Indian Police System. The latest web series on MX Player Bhaukaal has made him famous across the country as Supercop, already known in UP by that name.

Even though we all know people who complain about the flaws in our judicial and police systems, it is extremely rare to find someone who has translated his words and ideas into action. Serving as the Additional Director General of the Uttar Pradesh Police in Lucknow, the life events of Navniet Sekera could be the stuff of a Bollywood movie.

The tales of his personal and professional journey are difficult to believe, which is the reason why there is a web series based on his life called Bhaukaal on India’s OTT platform, MX Player, which is becoming more popular. A brave and unflinching zeal to perform his duty as an IPS officer even in the face of the most harrowing gangs in UP has earned him the title of the ‘Supercop of UP’.

Early Life

Navniet Sekera was born on October 22, 1971. He completed his schooling at the All-Boys school in Etah, Firozabad District, Uttar Pradesh. He was a Hindi-medium student, but his dedication and perseverance enabled him to clear the prestigious IIT exam and pursue B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering from IIT Roorkee. Following graduation in 1993, he applied for IIT Delhi’s M.Tech program. However, fate had other plans for him.

Life-Changing Event

He witnessed something that deeply impacted his mentality and thought process shortly after graduating from IIT Roorkee. He comes from a farming family. His father was once threatened by some local gangsters, so he joined him at the police station to file an FIR. He was, however, shocked by the attitude of the police officer who ridiculed him and his father. Navniet Sekera, after returning home, decided to prepare for the UPSC exam to get involved in the police system in order to bring about a transformation of the system.

He was among the very few students to crack the UPSC at the first attempt and qualify for becoming an IAS officer. However, he was set on becoming an IPS officer. Following his training at the Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad, he began his iconic career as a revolutionary police officer. He was an IPS officer of the 1996 batch.

Professional Career

In December 1998, he was posted to Meerut as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) after being posted as an ASP in Gorakhpur. His early days showed the beginnings of a supercop. At a time when organised crime was at its peak in some areas of Uttar Pradesh, he is solely responsible for initiating a revolution within the police system. Gangs and mischievous organizations had been wreaking havoc in UP with the support of the police and government. Back then, this was common knowledge, and no one dared to challenge it.

Navniet Sekera, however, came in and broke the gangs by either confronting the criminals straightaway or putting them behind bars. The police officer displayed fearless character against the most brutal criminals and performed his duties in a passionate manner. This restored people’s faith in the system as they became ardent followers of the man.

After Navniet Sekera was transferred from Meerut, people in Meerut printed and distributed posters all over the city to call him back. As evidence of his legacy, people stopped lodging complaints in the police station without him present. This is a testament to the impact he had on the average citizen.

Promotions and Current Life

Navniet was promoted to the position of Superintendent of Police (SP) in 2001 where he served for 11 years before becoming Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in 2012. Within 2 years, he became the Inspector General (IG) of Women Power Line, UP, in 2014.

He currently serves as the Additional Director General of the Uttar Pradesh Police in Lucknow. As an avid reader, he decided to return to school and pursue a degree, for which he passed the GMAT exam to get admitted to the Indian School of Business. He studied Finance, Strategy, and Leadership at the Indian School of Business.

In the Indian police system, Navniet Sekera is regarded as a jewel in the crown thanks to his exemplary and illustrious career. He is already well-known in UP, but now people across the country are getting to know him through the newest web series on MX Player – Bhaukaal, which is currently in its second season.

Being so well versed in many fields, he is often invited to deliver lectures at prestigious colleges and universities to inspire young students who are capable of transforming the country in the future. The nation salutes this patriotic and passionate leader and hopes to have more like him in every field.
