Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had to undergo a throat surgery at Narayana Health Bangalore. The CM had undergone the corrective surgery to get rid of persistent cough issues. According to the doctor’s reviews, from the last 40 years, Kejriwal was suffering from chronic cough. The medical experts operated on the middle part of his throat, including the base of the tongue, tonsils and the walls of the pharynx.
According to sources, Dr Paul C Salins, Medical Director and Vice President, Mazumdar Shaw Medical Center, Narayana Health City, observed the abnormal condition of 48-year old Kejriwal after examining his coughing bouts.
“He coughed because his enlarged soft palate and uvula (fleshy hanging extension at the back of the soft palate) and a slightly larger tongue caused kinematic problems and made it difficult for his tongue to move freely in the restricted space,” said the doctor.
Since the surgery involved correction of a septal spur and the repositioning the base of his tongue, the hospital’s authorities confirmed that the treatment intends for functional restoration. The diagnosis even involved detailed computer analytics of cephalometrics, modeling simulation, dynamic MRI and Video Fluroscopic examinations.
On being asked about the health of Chief Minister, Dr Devi Shetty, the founder of Narayana Healthcare affirmed, “The Chief Minister will comment on the surgery when he is ready.” However, Kejriwal is recovering from his illness speedily. It was also accorded that after the intake of few sips of water, the Chief Minister spoke to his family after the surgery.
