The Asian Hockey Federation (AHF), on February 21, 2017, announced Abhijit Sarkar as the new Vice Chairman of the organisation. He is also appointed the chief of AHF Commercial and TV Committee. The decision is backed by a special executive board meeting, which was held earlier this month.
Abhijit Sarkar has been closely associated with Subrata Roy’s Sahara India Pariwar since more than two decades now. As the Head of Corporate Communications, Corporate Affairs and Relations, and the Sports Division at Sahara India Pariwar, he has successfully curated and executed various strategies in the Indian sports arena.
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Abhijit Sarkar has played an undeniably-crucial role in the promotion of sports across the country. He has to his credit the endorsement and sponsorship of Indian National Cricket Team as well as the Indian National Hockey Team. It is important here to throw some light on his profound involvement in the structuring and campaigning of Uttar Pradesh Wizards, the field hockey team owned by Sahara India Pariwar, in the Coal India Hockey India League.
On being interviewed about the latest, well-deserved appointment of Abhijit Sarkar as new Vice Chairman, Hockey India (HI) President Mariamma Koshy said, “I believe that it is a strong decision of the AHF as Mr Sarkar’s dedication and contribution to the sport has been immense. I am sure under his able leadership and with his rich experience, the Asian Hockey Federation will be able to achieve much success.”
Sarkar expressed extreme gratitude on this special occasion and spoke, “I am deeply honoured to be selected for this position at the Asian Hockey Federation. Over the years with my deep involvement in the development of the sport, I am keen to support all Asian hockey playing countries to achieve better success and make a mark in the world of hockey.”
