Pune Rape Case: Police Use Drones and Dog Squad to Capture Accused Hiding in Sugarcane Field

In a dramatic operation, Pune police deployed drones, a dog squad, and over 100 personnel to track down and arrest the prime accused in the shocking Pune rape case. The accused, who was involved in the heinous crime of sexually assaulting a woman on a moving bus, was found hiding in a dense sugarcane field after an extensive manhunt.

Swift Police Action

The Pune rape case that has evoked widespread outrage and condemnation took place on Tuesday morning at the Swargate bus depot, which is among the city’s most busy transport points. The victim, a 26-year-old health counselor, was tricked by Gade to an isolated bus, where she was assaulted. The incident happened just 100 meters away from a police station, and it again brings into question the requirement for better security arrangements.

The moment the accident was reported, the Pune police initiated a big search operation. Due to the challanging geography and possible hiding places, police authorities decided to use sophisticated spy technology, including drones, to monitor the suspect’s activities.

 

Use of Drones and Dog Squad

For faster search, drones with night-vision cameras were used to sweep through the large fields where Gade was believed to hide. The dog squad was also used to follow his trail from the crime scene to suspected escape paths. Senior police officers said Gade had proceeded into a nearby sugarcane field, away from his native town, thus becoming hard to trace because of the thick vegetative cover. The combined powers of technology and ground personnel eventually came in handy to narrow his location.

 

100 Cops in Pursuit

More than 100 police personnel were deployed for the operation, covering all possible routes of escape. The police finally pinned down Gade in a remote corner of the sugarcane field after hours of scanning and tracking. He tried to avoid arrest but was quickly apprehended when he went out for a meal, following a tip from a local resident.

A top police officer who participated in the operation confirmed that Gade is presently being interogated and legal proceedings have been instituted. “The employment of drones and the dog squad played a key role in this case, as it helped us to speedily identify and arrest the accused without allowing him to escape,” the officer said.

 

Public Outrage and Demand for Justice

The Pune rape case reopened debates on the safety of women and the enforcement of stricter legislation against sexual perpetrators. Citizens and activists have sought quick justice for the survivor and increased punishment for offenders of this nature. The case has also prompted protests, with political figures calling for the capital punishment of Gade.
