What was the need to continue with Odd-Even rule till mid-January: Delhi High Court asks Standing Counsel of AAP

On Wednesday, Delhi High Court asked the Delhi Government, Aam Aadmi Party if Odd-Even rule, which is on trial since January 1, 2016, and will finish on January 15, 2016, could be discontinued by January 8, 2016. The Delhi High Court also asked the officials to submit the relevant data where changes in the level of pollution in Delhi have been highlighted, since the launch of this “Odd number on Odd date and Even number of Even date” formula.

The Delhi High Court set a Division Bench led by Chief Justice G. Rohini, after hearing a bunch of public interest writ petitions on the subject matter. Due to the lack of adequate public transport infrastructure in the National Capital, the public is going through a lot of troubles and inconvenience.

The Standing Counsel of AAP, Rahul Mehra have been asked by the Delhi High Court to give valid reasons for continuing the Odd-Even scheme till January 15 if the data on pollution levels had already been collected for facilitating the future course of action?

The Bench of Justice found the odd-even formula difficult to follow in practical terms and posted the case till Friday for further hearing. The Delhi High Court also asked the Delhi Government to file a status report with the data on pollution levels in different parts of the city till Thursday on the next date of hearing.
