Cricket is not only a mode of entertainment, but a measure that is used to cater other needs as well. Like for a cause or charity event or to decide who the best amongst all is and sometimes to raise funds for building the office of Surat Builders Association.
Builders across Surat, part of Gujarat, are planning to organize a T-20 match among 6 pre divided zones. An auction was held for selecting each of these teams from 6 different zones on October 11, 2009 during an annual general meet of the association.
Jolly Group’s Tushar Ghelani bought the Athwa Presidency Team from Athwa zone for Rs.11.70 lakh. Katargam Kings was financed by Vasant Gajera of Laxmi Group for Rs10 lakh. Gautam Patel and Tarun Raval shelled out Rs 6 lakh for Limbayat Leopards. Rander Royals was acquired by Alpesh Kotadia and Vinod Ravani. Rs4.51 lakh were spent on Udhna Champions by Raghuveer and Rameshwar groups and Rajhans and Mitul groups spent Rs4.25 lakh on Varachha Lions.
Tarun Raval is the president of Surat Builders Association, who announced that the association was able to collect of Rs. 41 lakh from this auctioning. More funds will be generated by selling the rights of T-20 Championship. The league will be held between December 18 and 20 at Sarita Sagar Complex, Adajan.
Upcoming Trade Center of The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry is a prospect space to build the association’s office. The president of the Chamber, Mr. Nilesh Mandlewala is also ready to look into the matter if it officially comes on his working desk.
