Australian team’s bus hit by stone-pelter in Guwahati after winning match against India

A sport is to be taken as a sport. But that was not the case in Guwahati, where Team Australia won the second Twenty 20 international against India. After the win, players were travelling from Busapara Stadium back to their hotel when the window on the right-hand side of their bus was attacked by some hooligan.

Reportedly, a stone around the size of a cricket ball, hit the window of the team’s bus. Australian opener Aaron Finch tweeted: “Pretty scary having a rock thrown through the team bus window on the way back to the hotel!!” The photo Finch posted on Twitter was that of a broken window pane with a big hole.

Thankfully, nobody was injured, since the seat next to the window was unoccupied. This is the second time, when the Australian team’s bus was hit with a stone. Five weeks back, their vehicle was attacked in a similar fashion in Chittagong, Bangladesh as it traveled back to a hotel after the first day’s play of the 2nd and final test against the home team.

Assamese people from around India condemned the stone-pelting incident, and extended their support to the Australian team. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Twitter that anti-social elements were behind the attack, and the culprits would be put behind bars soon. Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma apologised to the Australian team, and promised to punish the guilty on Twitter.

In the match between Australia and India, Moises Henriques was the star. He slammed his second T20I fifty and sailed his team to a thumping eight-wicket win over India. With this win, Australia snapped their seven-game losing streak in T20Is against India. Also, this is their first win over Virat Kohli’s side in India. The series is tied 1-1, and the final match will be played in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Friday.
