India has taken the 2-1 lead in the four-match series. It defeated England in the third Test match that ended in just two days. Many former English and Indian players raised major concerns over the pitch at Narendra Modi Stadium that seems to be in favour of the bowlers especially the spinners. However, now team England is also planning to select an extra spinner in the team for the final match.
Harbhajan Singh and former India batting stalwart VVS Laxman are of a view that it is not an ideal pitch for a Test match. “It is not an ideal pitch. India would also have been in trouble if England had scored 200 in their first innings. But it (the pitch) is the same for both sides,” said Harbhajan Singh.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan also criticized the surface in his tweet. “If we are going to see these pitches … I have an answer to how it could work … Give the Teams 3 innings !!! #INDvENG,” he wrote.
While India team captain Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma refused the talks about the pitch and said it had demons. Former England player Kevin Pietersen also expressed concern over the pitch and posted that such a pitch is fine to play a single match as batsmen’s skill is put to test. However, players and I would not like to see this pitch again.
As per the sources, a BCCI official suggested that the pitch is being prepared for the final Test of the series which will be a batting-friendly turf.
