The 2021 Olympic Opening Ceremony took place in Tokyo on Friday. There were plenty of exuberant outfits that glowed the night even brighter! For starters, Misia, the Japanese singer-songwriter performed the Japanese national anthem decorated with a voluminous, rainbow and white undertone gown by brilliant designer Tomo Koizumi. From Angola to Vanuatu the Parade of Nations offered a rare survey of the world’s fashions.
Each nation brought their own colours to the ceremony. People were seen wearing elaborate gowns, headpieces, and flamboyant suits. Athletes from Bermuda wore Bermuda shorts, few arrived topless.
The Ukrainians displayed yellow fanny packs. Sierra Leone had beautiful tracksuits. One look at the dresses worn by the women of Croatia would make you want one! Some designer fashions stood out in the crowd. Liberia’s incredible uniforms were the creation of Telfar Clemens, the man behind the “Bushwick Birkin,”. Giorgio Armani and Ralph Lauren did the looks for their respective countries as well.
At the Opening Ceremony, some of the best outfits were not only worn by athletes but by the sign bearers as well. The costumes and speech bubbles had a comic vibe to it as they were inspired by manga.
