PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik made India proud in Rio 2016

PV Sindhu doesn’t need any introduction. She made India proud by reaching finals of the Rio 2016 Women Single with a winning score of 21-19, 21-10 over Nozomi Okuhara from Japan. Her Gold Medal match is scheduled against the Spanish player, Carolina Marin. This victory of India was doubled when the Grappler Sakshi Malik won the bronze medal in 58Kgs freestyle category of women wrestling.

PV Sindhu gave a rocking performance after defeating her opponent against whom, she had won only once in a four-time. She played the way she has presented her skills in the quarterfinals of World No. 2 Wang Yihan. Sindhu competed with one of her Japanese rival in the opening match, and then she gave a bang-bang performance in the second round breaking all records at 10-all. She then ended the match in her own stylish way in Rio Olympics.

On the other hand, Sakshi, 23-year old grappler became the heroine of the show winning a hard game played against the Kyrgyzstan’s Aisuluu Tynybekova, a well-known Asian Champion. This player from Indian gave a sensational performance. Sakshi won this game after facing a loss against Russian Valeria Koblova Zholobova in the ¼ Gold Medal contest. After this, she surprised everyone in a match played against Mongolian Orkhon Purevdorj with a win in the first bout before she created a history by winning eight points consecutively in a row.

This medal was the first-ever medal received by any Indian in Women Wrestling Championship and fourth in the World after well-renowned names Karnam Malleswari for weight lifting from Sydney, Saina Nehwal for badminton and M.C. Mary Kom for boxing. This game became the third Games where wrestlers brought glory for the nation.  PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik opened a new chapter of success in the Rio 2016.
